Awkward

First of I would like to say “yes I did notice I didn’t update this blog for sometime”

So anyway, I have to thank my friend for posting this video in the forum, Because I have finally found a youtube mini series that is able to expertly convey the word “awkward”.

Gosh did you know it’s so very hard to be an awkward person ? If you watch the videos, there’s a scene where she walks down the hallway and meets the SAME person over and over again and smiling and “hello” just makes it worse.

So here is my story :

So every morning\evening I will see this one Chinese guy, out of 5 days of work I would see him at least 4 times or sometimes the whole 5 days. You see the problem with this dude is….. well nothing, it’s me with the problem. I just cannot crack a smile at the same person over and over again. ITS WEIRD !!! and I’m scared he would strike a conversation and I do something stupid like laugh too loudly.

But this guy was not my problem before only ….. wait! let me ask you something first, if you are walking down the street and you see the same person over and over again, would you ?

A. crack a smile

B. Look elsewhere

C. Say Hello

D. Do nothing !

Out of all this D is the hardest for me! I just can’t do nothing, it’s like doing nothing. You know what I mean? The problem started when I almost always see one Indian guy on my way to work. He always smiles and nods his head whenever he sees me, so I thought that was very polite and did the same back…..only that I didn’t expect him to actually SPEAK to me. I swear when he say “hello how are you ?” …..I smiled awkwardly and mumbled thanks ….when I suppose to say “HI, I’m DOING GOOD” . GOSH I WANTED TO KICK MYSELF IN THE HEAD !!. Then I started to get nervous if he is around, just how long are you gonna slow walk behind him so he won’t talk to you ! So last month I was going back home and I walked passed by a shop and nearly bumped into him, well the thing was I was listening to my MP3 player, so I can’t make out what he said, it will be rude to ask him what he said …..Because he looked like he was about to have a long chat if I asked him. So I just nod my head and ran away.

But now I don’t see him very often but if I do, he would gawk until I look and smile. I swear he sometimes walks slowly so that I would catch up…..LIKE HELL I WOULD GIVE HIM THAT SATISFACTION!!! HAHAHA

So back to the Chinese guy right ? So yeah, since I see him everyday and he is NOT the s B or D type, so it’s very awkward for me to see him everyday. He just stares at you and then looks straight ahead when I tried to do the same….ARRGHHH and there are only so many times I could divert my gaze to the grass or trees or sky or drain or some poo on the side walk!!!!

Another good example was yesterday, I would always make a mistake of drooling when I speak with my mouth full. So yeah you get the picture!!! GOSH yesterday I was so excited telling a joke and halfway even before I could get to the funny part I drooled!! I FREAKING DROOLED !! And I just couldn’t continue anymore ….because I got so embarrassed and well I kinda chocked a bit because I was gasped with my mouthful. After the recovery I notice everyone staring at me…..Gosh if some stone fell on me that time I would’ve been VERY grateful.

Now you know …….

I totally get where you're coming from. I've been trying to work on my "people skills". Normally I'd ignore people, but if I see them on numerous occasions on the street I've recently been going out of my way to nod, wave, or say "hello". I've been quiet for far too long and have decided to reach out a bit and make myself available to those I know, even on the most cursory of levels. So far I've received nothing but positive responses. It's almost as if these people were hoping that I'd break the ice. Feel very cool!
